Zaller-Deffuant model of public opinion

چکیده
Recent formulation of the Zaller model of mass opinion is generalized to include the interaction between agents. The mechanism of interaction is close to the bounded confidence model. The outcome of the simulation is the probability distribution of opinions on a given issue as dependent on the mental capacity of agents. Former result was that small capacity leads to a strong belief into random opinions. Here we show that an intensive interaction between agents also leads to a consensus, accepted without doubts. متن کاملThe Relative Agreement Model of Opinion Dynamics in Populations with Complex Social Network Structure
Research in the field of Opinion Dynamics studies how the distribution of opinions in a population of agents alters over time, as a consequence of interactions among the agents and/or in response to external influencing factors. One of most widely-cited items of literature in this field is a paper by Deffuant et al. (2002) introducing the Relative Agreement (RA) model of opinion dynamics, publi...
متن کاملBenefits of diversity, communication costs, and public opinion dynamics
We study the dynamics of public opinion in a model where agents change their opinions as a result of random binary encounters if the opinion difference is below their individual thresholds that evolve over time.We ground these thresholds in a simple individual cost-benefit analysis with linear benefits of diversity and quadratic communication costs. We clarify and deepen the results of earlier ...
متن کاملCommunication regimes in opinion dynamics: Changing the number of communicating agents
This article contributes in four ways to the research on timediscrete continuous opinion dynamics with compromising agents. First, communication regimes are introduced as an elementary concept of opinion dynamic models. Second, we develop a model that covers two major models of continuous opinion dynamics, i.e. the basic model of Deffuant and Weisbuch as well as the model of Krause and Hegselma...
متن کاملWhen group level is different from the population level: an adaptive network with the Deffuant model
We propose a model coupling the classical opinion dynamics of the bounded confidence model, proposed by Deffuant et al., with an adaptive network forming community or group structure. At each step, an individual can decide if it changes groups or interact on its opinion with one of its internal or external neighbour. If it decides to look at the group level, it changes group if its opinion is f...
